Requiescat in pacem

Chief Justice Rehnquist has died. He was a good man. He will be missed. I liked reading his books on impeachment trials (published before Clinton's fiasco) and on civil rights in wartime.

If Pres. Bush has his wits about him, he will get Judge Roberts confirmed before announcing another appointment. No need starting two hares at once.

Either that, or he should appoint a sitting justice to be Chief (probably Antonin Scalia); then, once both the new Chief and now-Justice Roberts are in place, he can announce a third pick.
