Star of the show

Cuthbert made an appearance in church this morning as the focus of the children's lesson. He was much oohed and ahhed over. He did fine, though it was a bit overwhelming to be displayed in front of that many people (and be petted by so many strangers).

I told the kids the story of his rescue as an object lesson in "grace." We are all of us, in a way, lost and perishing. Essentially, Jesus Christ says to us on behalf of God the Father, "I'll take you home with me. I'll take care of you. And I will love you for ever." This is the Good News. That he does so for his own reasons, there being nothing we could have done to get him to help us besides asking, is Grace.

God rescues us from our human predicament, just because. That's a Good Thing.
