Don't try this at home, we are professionals

Well, here it is nearly Ten-thirty at night, and I'm just about ready to start packing for my trip tomorrow.

Actually, I've spent the last several hours working steadily on getting things ready for the trip to Philmont. All the crew gear is now assembled and laid out, ready to stow and go. This is one of the most nerve-wracking parts of a big trip. And while the youth are supposed to run the Crew, etc., adults are in charge of most of the logistics, and I always want to be sure we've got everything -- and that it is in good repair, up to date, etc. That means checking it all myself, or with one other, trusted helper. Ah, for the good old days when I had other adults (especially stryck or that_guy_zach) to help. They'd been there, done that, and knew where everything went. And we'll work this new crew up to that point. But we ain't there yet.

So, I've been crossing the eyes and dotting the tees, so to speak. It's what I do. This is my fourth Philmont trek, which means I bleed trail dust. But more than that: this is the fourteenth High Adventure trip I've led to out of State or out of country destinations. I know what we're facing, and I want the Venturers well-prepared, with all the right gear and all the right training. I think we're as ready as we can be, without actually having done the Big One together.

Meanwhile, Makayla and Jordan planned a really fantastic menu for the trip out and back, and we did really well shopping for it today. I'd rate both of them highly qualified in that department. I don't know how many times I've had other backpackers, adult and youth, tell me that they eat better on our trips than they do at home.

So, time to pack my duds, lay out my personal gear, and set my alarm clock for Early Birdness. When the Venturers arrive at Eight o'clock, I intend to be ready. Ego! Opto Redire! Ad PHILLIPPIMONTUM!
