Waxin' poetical and all

Just checked the weather forecast. It's improved since I last looked. Highs in the 60s, lows tolerable (38 tonight, 45 tomorrow night). Rain coming in on Saturday, but if we're lucky, we'll be home and dry before the rain starts. I ended the service Sunday with the old Irish benediction, which is suitable for this backpacking shakedown:
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and the rain fall softly on your fields.
And until we meet again, may God hold you
in the very hollow of his hand.

Got a charley horse in the early morning today. Woke me up abruptly. Apparently, my right leg is not in a cooperative mood at all, at all. Well, then, here's an old Irish toast I gave at Phred's birthday party last weekend:
May those who love us, love us,
and for those who love us not, may God turn their hearts.
And if God turn not their hearts, may he turn their ankles,
that we may know them by their limping.

Speaking of birthdays, today is Marshall's birthday. He's 13 and loose on the world. Parents, lock up your daughters. For him, the Russian Happy Birthday Song:
Happy Birthday! Oh, Happy Birthday!
Pain and sorrow and despair,
people dying everywhere!
Happy Birthday! Oh, Happy Birthday!
One step closer to the grave,
think of all the food you'll save.
Happy Birthday! Oh, Happy Birthday!
