So we spent an enjoyable evening stuffing ourselves with Kassler Rippchen and listening to the guy on the accordion, who got progressively stranger as the evening wore on. People kept buying him shots of Jägermeister. In thanking the crowd, he said, "The more of these you drink, the better I sound and look; the more of these I drink, the less I care how I sound and look."
We talked overseas travel, church politics, book editing, languages, college, old friends . . . It was great. Neither collinsmom nor I could remember the last time we just spontaneously dropped everything to go somewhere together like that.
