Neat new word -- or, rather, neat old word

In the Old English version of John's Gospel, disciple is translated as leorningcniht, which I think is just an absolutely groovy word. It consists of two elements: cniht, the ancestor of modern knight, means "youth, boy, young warrior, attendant," etc.; leorning, becomes modern learning.

So, the OE for disciple could be translated as "assistant in training." Sounds good to me.
