Progress at last

I've been preaching a series of sermons on the Apostles' Creed. It's one I've done several times before. That'll carry me through September 20. Thank God I've got a deep sermon barrel to get me through the busy times.

Anyway, today, I finally got my preaching texts and titles filled in for the Sundays September 27-November 22. Still have to look over psalms, collects, hymns, and so forth, but it's coming together.

There are times when I think it would be nice to be handed all this. If I were in one of the "liturgical Churches," much of it would be. On the other hand, even if most of it is done for you, you can't just phone it in. There's still some thought and sweat to be contributed. As my old preaching professor put it (wee Scot that he was), "Rememberrr what David said when he boöt the threshing floor of Araunah: I weel not offerr up unto the Laird my God that which costs me nuthing."
