Well, smack my lips

While on our recent mission trip to Tennessee, I bought a mountain folk cookbook. I wanted it for just one recipe: Vinegar Pie. I made one today, and I can attest that Vinegar Pie is delicious. More like lemon custard than anything vinegarish.

I think I can make it outdoors, too. The filling is cooked in a double boiler (easy enough over a backpacking stove). Then the filling is poured into an already baked pie shell, which I can buy ready-made or bake in a Dutch oven.

So, add another culinary trick to my bag. And perhaps another entry for the Scouters' cookoff at next January's Winter Rendezvous.
