Good day

Called up my Aunt Clarice today, then went over to Columbus to take her and my cousin Barbara out for lunch. Aunt C. is the last surviving sibling from my mother's family. She's 80 or so. She's always been full of quips and poems and little songs. I've got some of the shtick that I've used over the years from her, to the wonderment of many a Boy Scout. I told her that there are a whole bunch of little boys who have expressed a desire to meet her.

Barbara is retired from the Marines. I've asked for prayers for her before. She has cancer and wasn't expected to make it to last Christmas; yet, here she is, putting along and working a couple days a week at Camp Atterbury. Barbara is 52, but she says she's just 7 (just add the two numerals together, she says). She and her mom are basically helping each other along.

I brought with me a cache of photos I found among my mother's papers: old Shirley family photos, mostly. I was hoping that Aunt C. could put names to the faces; if she can't then no one still in this world probably can. She managed to name a few. All in all, it was a good day.

As I was getting ready to leave, I took a picture of them in Aunt Clarice's kitchen.
