Ambivalence

It's about time to apply for The Bishop's Award of Excellence. Both Scout Troop and Cub Pack would qualify this year, which would be a bit of a coup; however, the fact is that the criteria for the BAE have been so watered down that neither group had to do much of anything beyond what they ordinarily do to qualify. I made sure we had certain discussions, and I made sure the church offered the God & Country program, etc.

So what exactly are we celebrating? What has been achieved? I don't know. I want to make sure that our kids and leaders are encouraged to cooperate ever more closely with the church, but just giving away bling bling seems counterproductive to me: Cheap Grace With a Patch™.
