Jamboree Chaplains Training

I just got off the phone on a conference call with some of our United Methdodist Scouting Ministry leaders. Next week, I'm going to lead the training for our UM Chaplains at the National Scout Jamboree this summer. I was a sub-camp Chaplain in 1993, and the UM HQ Chaplain in 1997. I am honored to be asked to step back in and do the training. I might even show up at the Jamboree, just to say Hi.

We have twenty United Methodist chaplains at the Jamboree this summer! That's one of the largest contingents, probably about the same as the LDS and maybe a few less than the Roman Catholics. There will be about 3,000 people at our UM worship service on Jambo Sunday.

As a former church orphan, Scouting was incredibly important to my spiritual development as a youth. It was protoevangelium for me. Most of my worship experiences as a youth (age 11 on) were in camp settings. My Scoutmaster, a Baptist minister, was very important to me, too. Those who bring the light of Christ to the boys and girls on Scouting's path have a very special place in my heart.
