Heavenly bodies

Last night as I was walking home from the Troop Committee meeting, the moon was sinking toward the western horizon. Earthshine was in evidence -- what we call "the old moon in the new moon's arms." The moon was a slim crescent, but you could see the shadow of the whole moon as a dark circle against the dark sky. A bright planet -- probably Venus -- was blazing upward of the moon and to her left. It was very beautiful.
