They don't take vows, but they still belong

I took my confirmation class to St. Meinrad Archabbey today for a tour and prayer with the monks. It was a good trip, though it wore me out. The Chapter Room has ceiling and walls adorned with many paintings, including a series on the duties of a monk from the Rule of St. Benedict. This one, to serve the aged and infirm with the same reverence one would show to Christ, I found notable for the inclusion of the kitty cat within the circle of monastic life. Kindness extends out in all directions in a proper Christian life.
