Government corruption in Democratic strongholds: is it really news?

So, two election workers in Cuyahoga County, Ohio (Cleveland) have been found guilty of attempting to rig a recount in the 2004 presidential election. Not to affect the outcome, but to avoid the work of doing it properly.

I find it interesting that news accounts note that Cuyahoga County is a Democratic stronghold, but that no news account I can find identifies the political affiliation of the two convicted officials. And maybe that doesn't matter.

But you can bet your booties that if they were Republicans, that fact (relevant or not) would be prominently featured in the news stories.
