Bad kitty

Cuthbert's in a "time out" right now. I heard collinsmom yelling, "Ow! Ow! Ow!" -- more so than normal. I got up and met her coming out of the bedroom, holding her arm. Cuthbert sank a claw in her, and managed to hit the artery coming down the radial side of the wrist.

It was the first time I'd ever actually seen arterial bleeding, though of course I've practiced what to do for years. Quite an amazing sight. Pump. Pump. Pump. She was running cold water over it. I grabbed her wrist to apply direct pressure, as well as the hollow of her elbow to apply indirect pressure. It stopped quickly, but she'll have a glorious bruise at the site of the injury. Then we put a bandage on it, and there you go.

We don't want to have to de-claw the little beast, but we're not sure what to do to keep him from over-reacting, whether in play or irritation. One thing's for sure, though: he's getting his claws trimmed today.

If only he were susceptible to catnip. We could keep him stoned most of the time.
