Getting back on an even keel

"Between losses and gains and joys and pains, I just about came out even on this deal." -- Scrooge McDuck

Two big aaaarghs in my life right now. One, the Democrats took control of Congress, and I predict nothing but awfulness for the next two years. I've not watched much news, contenting myself largely with Food Network and Mythbusters. Two, I am obscenely fat. Nothing much I can do about that just yet, with the Eating Season just getting under weigh, but collinsmom's talking about going back on Atkins soon (after the New Year?), and we may get our weight under control again that way.

On other fronts, I'm feeling pretty good. I'm finally getting a handle on the rhythm of life and work in this parish and with all the comings and goings. Stuff is getting done. I'm getting used to how reimbursement for mileage and other stuff works here, which means I'm not always strapped for operating cash. We have two good Bible Studies that meet weekly, and I just had six kids do the God and Family program. Work is proceeding on the new parsonage we'll move into (possibly around the end of January).

So, I guess it all evens out. I pray for the country, and for our troops in Iraq, and am concentrating on the stuff here at hand that I can actually do something about.
