Let's get physical

Had my annual physical yesterday. It was pretty pro forma. I guess my doctor thinks he knows me pretty well, and is only checking for certain things. I'd be happier with a little more prodding and poking. I even had to remind him about the bloodwork I had done last week -- usually his main interest in these matters.

Well, my numbers are simply magnificent -- all of them. So that's good news. My weight remains more than I'd like to carry, but I'm hoping to slim up a bit this summer, what with all the activity I'll be taking on. I used to bulk up in the winter and drop all the extra weight every summer; after my metabolism slowed down to a crawl, I couldn't do that any more. Getting weight off and keeping it off is really hard. Last summer, though, I trimmed up a bit naturally again for the first time in years. So maybe I'm getting back to normal. I know that last summer was the first time I'd felt really, really fit for about eight years. It took me that long to get over the beating I took at my previous appointment plus dealing with Dad's death.

Just a couple more tests to complete the process, including my first colonoscopy (O, be joyful). And I need to make sure my vaccinations and such are all up to date for the trip to Tanzania.

Meanwhile, Cuthbert's in a feisty mood this morning. His sub-species ought to be Felis domesticus pugnax.
