My story

I grew up in a small town in southern Indiana, a county seat town of less than 3,000 population. Just about 100% white. We moved there when I started second grade, in the fall of 1960. Prior to this, we had lived in a small town rapidly being suburbanized on the south edge of Indianapolis. Again, 100% white. This town had a history of racism, I later learned. The county seat town had no particular history associated with it. It just was what it was.Collapse )
