Just wanted to say
We went out to eat for lunch and parted from the parking lot of Steak N Shake. I went on to do hospital calls and errands, and she returned to Muncie with the grandcubs. And I just want to say how proud I am of my daughter.
Anna is a wonderful mother. She has far more patience than either I or her mother had with our children. Children are not, for her, something to be packed into the whole young adult, have it all agenda, but something she wanted and intended and fully commits to. She has worked for pay while raising Daniel, and she is willing to work again if needed, but she remains primarily a mother. This is the role she has chosen.
And yet, she is so much more than that. She is still the same bright, talented person who wants to know everything. She wants to home-school Daniel and James, and she has both the gifts (as a teacher) and the mastery (of the content) to do it well. I enjoy her company so very much.
I am also proud of our son-in-law, Brian. He's a good father and he works hard to provide for his family. He's smart, too. And he has not merely grown older, but grown up a lot since becoming part of our family. He masters himself in order to offer himself for his wife and sons.
And both of them want to follow Jesus. They both want to be part of the church. They share a vision of the useful life, helping each other on to holiness and helping relieve the suffering of the world. And sure, they're also a lot of fun to be with, but I wouldn't enjoy their company near as much if I didn't also admire them both.
