Gearing up
As I prepare to lead our Venturers to Great Britain in a few weeks and look forward to Sea Base next June and the Congo mission trip in July, I take stock of my personal resources and wonder how many more such adventures I can undertake. Then I remember the aged Ulysses in the conclusion of Tennyson's poem, his assessment of himself. So, though it gets harder every time to prepare for these things, there are still things to be done.

Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

--Alfred, Lord Tennyson, "Ulysses"
