Further thoughts on the state of The UMC
All the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the failure, the inability, of General Conference to restructure The UMC, seems a bit over-wrought to me. I mean, don’t get me wrong. There are things I would change about The UMC if I were in charge of it, including reducing the budgets of the General Agencies and bringing the Central Conferences fully up to par with the Jurisdictional Conferences. But while I think that would do a lot of good, I am not a zealous reformer – one of those possessed by a vision as from Broceliande, in Charles Williams’s words,
. . . loquacious with a graph( Collapse )
or a gospel, gustily audacious over three heavens.
