camp cook

Trust but verify

Yesterday really took it out of me. When the alarm rang this morning, I was in no shape to get up and answer the bell. I did, anyway. It was raining, with thunder and wind gusts and all kinds of unpleasantness.

I drove out to camp and got there in time to check in the order for this weekend from the supplier. It's a good thing I did. They shorted me on a couple of cases of meat, sent me 5 gal. of fryer oil I didn't order and made at least one really weird substitution. We save a lot of money going through a wholesaler, and I save a lot of energy that would otherwise be spent on shopping and transporting stuff, but nobody knows what you need but you. Assuming that the people you're dealing with will have everything you need there when you need it, as you need it, is foolish.

So, now I'm back in town, and the big recliner is calling my name for nap. Unfortunately, I've got some phone calls to make first. But there's a nap coming my way, I hope.
