Crowning the year
Our happy Crew of Venturers crowned the year with a couple of nights at camp (we bunked in the OA basement of the health lodge). The weather was gorgeous. Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon were putting on quite a show last night. The food was great and plentiful. We played cards, made staff cockades for next month's Winter Rendezvous at camp, and made yet another unsuccessful stab at geocaching (this one involved about four miles of hiking up and down the forest roads, while the nearest geocache never got more than a couple tenths of a mile nearer).
Some folks might think it crazy to go camping over Christmas break, but we are four-season campers; besides, various Venturers' schedules meant that we haven't camped since summer, and so this was a first Crew campout for some of our Venturers. You gotta take what opportunities you get. All in all, it was delightful. My bronchitis even improved. And some important ministry got done, too, in small but significant ways. Meanwhile, I intend to supervise the making of menus more carefully next time. We had no vegetables at all (if you're not counting the tomatoes in the chili). And having hot dogs on the same campout you have bangers is a bit redundant.

Kylie roasting marshmallows to make s'morts
referred to in the third pic caption were my invention. I brought some graham cracker tart shells, put milk chocolate chips in them, then we topped them with two gooey roasted marshmallows each. S'more + tarts = s'morts.
