The heart of the matter

"Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you."

I got down to the surgery center this morning in good order and everything was going well (if you discount two failed attempts before they managed to get an IV going). I even dozed off, waiting for them to come get me. But then I woke up, and it was an hour past my start time.

Oh, well. Maybe they're backed up.

Finally, the anaesthesiologist and the intake nurse came up to me and asked if I'd ever had an EKG before last Friday's. Off they went to try to locate a previous EKG for comparison purposes. They couldn't find one, but were still iffy. The cardiologist said it looks like I may have had a heart attack at some point. *boggle*

All I can think of is that hike up and down Wheeler Peak last summer that knocked me for a loop so badly.

The upshot of it all is, the ENT postponed my sinus surgery and proceeded to call my GP's office; he then set up a stress test for me with the cardio folks tomorrow. Once I get a definitive answer on what kind of shape my heart's in, we can reschedule the drilling of the nose.

Whatever happened last summer, I know I've got to lose weight. And I know I need to exercise to get in shape for Philmont. What this means is that I need to do those things under a doctor's guidance instead of just doing my own thing. And it means I need to make sure I can pass Philmont's high adventure physical.

Anyway, thank you all for your prayers, and keep 'em coming. I'll let you know more when I know more.
