storming the castle

There's Good News, and then there's . . .

Obama and the Democrats can spin the election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts all day and all night, but unless they've got somebody named Rumpelstiltskin on their team, I don't see how they make gold out of the straw. I mean, Brown even carried Ted Kennedy's home district that includes Hyannis Port. With 61% of the vote. Obviously, this was about more than just energized Republicans.

That, of course, means that the GOP can't start to gloat. The Republican Party has been remarkably out of touch with the ordinary people they claim to speak for and want to lead. Opposition to the awfulness and corruption that is the governing Democratic Party these days doesn't equal support for the same old, same old from the Republicans.

And we've still got three more years of this administration to get through. Even if the Reeps stand off the worst proposals, maybe take back one or more houses of Congress this fall, we'll still be led by the guy singing, "Everybody loves me baby, what's the matter with you?" They say we've only got one President at a time. That ought to provoke a non-partisan shudder.
