Venturers Campout, Preliminary

This is from last Thursday. I went over to Wilderstead to prepare for the Venturers' Lumberjack Campout. There was still a lot of snow everywhere. By the time the Venturers arrived the next evening, most of it was gone.

Venturers Campout

Our Venturers campout went well. We got over to Wilderstead Friday night about 9:00. Ate some snacks and goofed around. Made pancakes for breakfast. Took a walk around Wilderstead. I'd say it was uphill, both ways, except for Kaleb deciding to run down the trail from the top of Akes Hill. Award him Mudsurfing Merit Badge, if you please.

We cut quite a number of long, straight spars from young trees. We should have enough to build our signal tower for Scout Anniversary Week in February. The weather was chilly, but Scott and I were in shirtsleeves while running chain saws. The youth followed up our felling with trimming gear (bow saw, axe, pruner, two machetes, sickle).

Scouting Anniversary Feast

Venturing Crew 119 invites you to reserve a place at a special Scouting Anniversary Feast at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, in Rogers Hall. The Crew is raising money for their Philmont Trek this summer, and all donations for this meal will go to help them reach their goal.

There is no set fee for this meal. Just give us what you think the meal is worth (or what you think the trip is worth). Donation baskets will be on the tables. All we ask is that you reserve your places by February 7, so we know how many to prepare for.

The Feast will be a banquet served in courses. The tentative menu is given below.

Scout Anniversary Feast Bill of Fare
Crab Cake, Parmesan Chicken Tenders
Leek Soup
Catseye Salad (it’s not what you’re thinking, trust us)
Beef Filet with Mushroom Pan Sauce
Sauteed Green Beans
