wayside cross

Sumer is icumen in

I went out to Wilderstead today to plant some little trees we've been nurturing in the side yard. The day was cool and rainy, but the rain held off while I was there.

I found a mushroom -- my first at Wilderstead (other than shelf fungi and puffballs). It was big (as big as my handwidth) and morel-like, but old and dry. Still, that means there's probably more out there, and someday we'll be gathering them. Hope springs eternal.

Everything was fresh and green -- amazingly green. All the plants were up, but nothing was overgrown yet. It was a beautiful, peaceful day in the woods. I even took a little nap after planting the trees.

collinsmom wanted me to check and make sure our scraggly little dogwoods (we have a few, way up the creek) were still thriving. They are. A few pictures are below the cut. Enjoy.

The picture of the stream reminds me of the old VBS song:
I've got a river of life flowing out of me,
makes the lame to walk and the blind to see,
opens prison doors, sets the captives free:
I've got a river of life flowing out of me.

Spring up, O well! within my soul,
Spring up, O well! and make me whole,
Spring up, O well! and give to me
that life abundantly!
