wayside cross

And finally, a little time to ourselves

collinsmom and I headed over to the holler yesterday. We went to Jungle Jim's for some snazzy eats, first, then turned toward Wilderstead. Got stuck in rush-hour traffic through Lawrenceburg -- a four-minute transit that took forty minutes. As the bumper stickers said when we moved there back in 1995, "US 50 Sucks."

Anyway, we got to the cabin just before the sun went down, built a fire, and settled in for a long, leisurely evening. There was time for a little bit of everything. Outside, the sky was so clear that every star seemed to be blazing away, clamoring for attention.

We went out briefly at midnight to shoot off some bottle rockets. That made it official. Then we snuggled down deep into our sleeping bags for a long winter's nap.

ða wif couldn't sleep, so she got up at 5:30 and made up the fire (bless her). I woke up for a while, but then went back down until after 9:00 a.m. Wilderstead was beautiful this morning.

Pet news

We switched Cuthbert to a new diet, which he didn't like. But his appetite is now improving. I'm glad. He's gone through a tough time, but I hope he's going to be all right now.
