My mentee (I hate that word; it sounds like an aquatic mammal or a julep) wanted some advice on time management. He has been told that he has to keep track of the hours he spends in his student appointment. I shared with him some of the survival tips I have discovered or developed over the years.( Collapse )
|Hear me roar!
You're a Tyrannosaurus Rex!
You can't stop talking about the "good old days" of the past. While you remember everything being so much better and more glorious back then, you've got to realize that times have changed! It's time to move on, time to bring in the new technology and advancements! Still, there is some charm to your olden out-dated ways. Children seem to love you, for example, as do some historians and scientists. And you should really eat something... your bones are starting to show.

You're Carleton College!
With your frequent excursions to lakes and the woods, you
are into outdoor recreation. These excursions can often leave you stranded
in remote locations, but you feel they're worth it anyway. While some people
have accused you of being a shill, you tend to disappear before they can
finish this accusation. Despite their extreme lack of cost-effectiveness,
you almost always order small sodas.

|The last word on finding the first word
These words carry a burden known only to the preacher. Herewith the third distillation of wisdom I shared with my seminary student.that_guy_zach
is preaching this Sunday (the Transfiguration), so I have some time to work on my sermons for Lent. I do NOT work on sermons week-by-week. That just gets you nervous prostration; meanwhile, secretaries and choir directors and who-all are tapping their feet, wanting to know the title of your sermon, etc. Too many preachers find themselves empty and searching for inspiration on a Saturday night.( Collapse )
|The way we were
Stumbled across this ancient picture of me and collinsmom
, taken c. 1976. I was in seminary, siege
was a baby, and stryck
not yet thought of. It seems hard to believe that it's been thirty years. We were a handsome couple, weren't we, in a dressed-up, hippie-ish way.
