Pointing fingers

Slowly, the whole skinny on the disaster in New Orleans is coming out. There will be plenty of blame -- and plenty of credit -- to pass around. However, for all those who hysterically condemned the federal response in the early days, here's a little item that you might consider:

One of our fundamental rights in this country is to elect corrupt, incompetent bozos to public office -- and to kick them out later on. When passing around blame and credit, remember the voters who chose this crowd. Not that I want to blame the victims, but "actions have consequences," and the actions of the State and local officials have had huge consequences -- as have the actions of the voters who put them in office.

Back in the gutter -- again

I was bored last night, so I thought maybe I'd go over to Florence and cruise a bookstore, buy me something new. But I'd spend money on that -- plus gasoline; besides, I was already too tired to want to go anywhere. So I decided to reward myself for the last two days of hard work. I installed Icewind Dale/Heart of Winter on my other computer with the new 22" monitor, and got down to some adventuring. I started about 8:30 p.m.

I finally turned off the computer at 3:00 in the morning, after a D&D binge of epic proportions. This is why I don't play computer games very often. They have a tendency to utterly blow my self-discipline.

I'm paying for this today. My eyes feel like somebody rubbed cat litter in them -- used cat litter at that.
