Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be preachers

I posted these thoughts on the pastorate in the first few days of my LJ. Nobody much read them. I still think they're important thoughts, so I'm going to repost them here. Maybe they'll garner a little comment now.

Busy, busy

Got through the wedding rehearsal in Devou Park last night. Had a good time at the rehearsal dinner. Now comes the proof of the pudding.

Right now, I'm baking communion bread. Have to arrive way too early over in the park for this here outdoor wedding: I'm bringing the altar, so they can't really finish setting up everything until that's there. PLUS, Sarah and Dale forgot the marriage license, which we usually dispose of in leisurely fashion at the rehearsal. So I've got to run around and get all the signatures and whatnot on that. Then I get to stand around all dressed up in stifling heat for a couple of hours.

Plan on skipping the reception. Sunday's comin'. That means a sermon to finish tonight, a Sunday School lesson to plan, and backup thinking RE two different youth meetings tomorrow afternoon. collinsmom and I should finally get some quiet time about 5-6 p.m. tomorrow night.
