Time Event

Lost Bridge
We had our last conditioner hike for Great Britain today. It did not bode well that only three of us showed up (and only two of us are going to UK). Be that as it may, we drove down to Farmers Retreat, parked the car, and hiked off down the road toward Laughery Creek.

We ate lunch at Lost Bridge, then headed up the ridge. We made extraordinary time. Counting breaks and lunch, we did the whole six miles in three hours. That's unheard of for backpacking; but then, we had only day packs, there were only three of us, and we were all three big strong guys.

It was a beautiful day. Extraordinary. The grass was so green it hurt. The trees were leafing out, the red-winged blackbirds were busy. We also saw a red-tailed hawk, various vultures, a cardinal (hey -- how come an Indiana cardinal's never been elected Pope? huh?), lots of cows, a horse, some dogs . . . Farmers were busy.

It was a great day. Really helped to blow the cobwebs out of my head. I've been locked in a dungeon with myself (very poor company at times) for a while, and I needed a day to be drawn outside into the open air.

Oh may I go a-wandering until the day I die,
and may I always laugh and sing beneath God's clear blue sky.
Val-de-ri, val-de-ra, val-de-ri, val-de-ra-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Val-de-ri, val-de-ra, beneath God's clear blue sky.

Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Adults in Church
This is in response to the post of prester_scott regarding sex offenders in the church. He asked about getting training and writing rules for a local congregation. There are lots of resources available. This is from the South Indiana Conference Guidelines, which I had a hand in writing.
