My two cents' worth

I am sorry for Tom Fox, the peace activist tortured and murdered by terrorists in Iraq. Having said that, I think he was very foolish. I also think that trying to "understand" terrorists is counterproductive. Defeating terrorists -- pounding them into the ground until they cringe in fear and start worrying about "understanding" us -- is what works.

I am not sorry for Slobodan Milosevic. The world's air is a little sweeter for his not breathing it anymore. But even so, I think it was a terrible way to do things to drag out his trial for years and years so that he died before a verdict could be delivered. "Justice delayed is justice denied" is not just about the victims, but about the perps, too -- and about society as a whole. No trial, however big and difficult, should take more than three months for the prosecution, three months for the defense, and an extra month for rebuttal -- whereupon somebody needs to deliver a verdict, so we can all get on to the next thing.

Just sayin'.
