The mountains are calling and I must go
Daniel and I have sketched out a tentative itinerary for his 12th birthday trip. This is what we have so far.
Monday, June 20: Fly to Colorado Springs, rent car. Do Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, camp somewhere in the mountains.
Tuesday, June 21: Drive down through Durango to Mesa Verde National Park. Camp there.
Wednesday, June 22: Tour Anasazi cliff dwellings and what-all at MVNP. Second night at MV.
Thursday, June 23: Drive to Four Corners, then down through Shiprock and across northern New Mexico. Long day of travel, punctuated by touristy stops. Camp at Cimarron Canyon SP, NM.
Friday, June 24: Get up early, eat breakfast at Huck's in Cimarron. Toodle down to Philmont to poke around base camp, then saddle up to return to Colorado Springs. Hand in rental car. Fly home.
