Anyway, I am willing to teach a short-term class for the children and youth of Arlington on Bible Foods. Each week, we will learn about a particular food item and its place in the Bible. We will cook something we can all enjoy, using that ingredient. And we will study a particular Bible story connected with that food.
November 1: SALT (Soft Pretzels) “You are the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13).
November 8: FIGS (My Famous Granola Bars) “It was not the time for figs” (Mark 11:11-26).
November 15: OLIVE OIL (Pesto on Baguettes) “You have anointed me to preach good news” (Luke 4:14-22).
November 22: WINE (Swiss Fondue) “I am the vine, you are the branches” (John 15:1-11).
November 29: BREAD (Soda Bread) “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35-40).
December 6: HONEY (Baklava) John the Baptist eats locusts and wild honey (Matthew 3:1-6)
December 13: FISH (Stir Fry) “Fishers of men” (Matthew 4:18-22).
December 20: GARDEN HERBS (Mint chocolate candy) Tithing mint, dill, and cumin (Matthew 23:23-24)
December 27: FAT (Brisket) The fatted calf (Luke 15:11-32) No morning class; kids help cook and serve a whole dinner for their families in the evening.
All of this is still in development, of course, and things may change. But we're trying to teach the children and youth about Jesus and keep them connected to the church. I can't commit to any program in an on-going way, but I can do short-term projects like this.
