Our District Executive pooh-poohs any such talk. To his mind, we just need to advertise more effectively to the kids who might be interested. But I know that all groups have a life expectancy, and we've already raised this group from the dead twice. Counting our Explorer Post predecessor, we will have ten years of Scouting experience together when our charter expires next January, and will have pulled off eleven of the most amazing treks anyone could ever hope to be part of. We will also leave behind an advancement record that stands as a benchmark for other Crews: so far, ten Bronze, four Gold, four Silver, two Rangers.
That said, I will miss it all terribly when it finally dies. Oh, we'll have a final farewell banquet, and invite everyone back who's ever been on a trek with us, but there will still be a sadness there. And there will be one particular regret for me, something I never could get pulled off, or get anyone else to follow through on. Oh, well. C'est la vie.
