Teaching the Faith

I've been asked to teach a brief class for adults who lack a firm grasp of Christianity and the Church. Some are new to the Faith, some are just new to Methodism. I've got it boiled down to four sessions.

A Short Course in Christian Foundations for Adults

Session One: The Bible
The origin of "Scripture"
The Old Testament foundation of Christianity
The Beginnings of Christianity and the Writing of the New Testament
How the Bible is organized

Session Two: The Church
Defining the Faith
Relations with the Empire
Divisions and Denominations

Session Three: The Way
A Personal Relationship with Christ
Spiritual Disciplines
The Community of Faith

Session Four: The Methodists
Methodism began as a renewal movement within the Church of England
Methodism in America
Distinctive Methodist Beliefs and Practices
The System of Conferences
