Stackin' 'em up

I got up at 6:30 in the holler this morning and was hard at work by 7:30. Had one row of 10" block to lay. The only problem was, even standing on my little platform, I was working at nearly chest level. Still, I did okay through the first two mixes of mortar. I ate a Clif Bar to boost my energy level as I got into the third mix.

Still, that ol' Sun kept climbing up in the sky, and soon it came down, smiting me like a hammer ringing on an anvil. I kept going slower and slower. Finally, there were just 4 or 5 block left to do, and one bucketful of mortar. I had to rest extensively between each step. I was on the borderline of heat exhaustion. When I finally got done and cleaned my tools, it was 2:00. If I could just have started by 7:00 instead of 7:30, I'd bet I would have been done by 12:30.

I am wiped out. I had hoped to pick up the pace in July, but in this heat, I'm doing good to be making the progress I am.
