Secret formulae

We had a great visit with friends at Logansport this weekend. Damon was reminiscing over past Chrysalis flights we did together, especially the ones I cooked for. He asked for these recipes.

This fast, easy, and tasty communion bread recipe is originally from St. Meinrad Archabbey.
3/4 cup white flour
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp molasses
1/2 cup milk

Mix drys, add wets, shape into one or two small, flat cakes and bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

Home-made Granola Bars

This one is my own invention. It's based on the old Rice Krispies Treats recipe.
2/3 stick butter
1 lb. marshmallows
2 oz unsweetened baking chocolate
1 tbsp. vanilla
3 cups crisped rice cereal
3 cups generic granola
1-2 cups date pieces, raisins, nuts -- as desired
Melt butter over medium heat in heavy pot. Add marshmallows, melt. Add remaining ingredients, mix thoroughly. Spray large sheet pan(s) with no-stick cooking spray; press hot mixture into pan(s), cool.

Slice into bars. Makes approx. 4 dozen bars.
