Productive day

In the end, it was a job for three or four people, but there were only two of us, so we got 'er done, despite the hassle. Special props to the driver of the mixer truck, who was an artist with his medium and showed great patience with us dabblers.

I left town at 4:00 o'clock this morning and drove to Lawrenceburg to pick up the concrete extension chute I rented. Then it was out to Wilderstead, arriving just before 8:00. Zach Randall, who now lives in Covington, KY, joined me about 9:30. The concrete truck came sometime after ten. And there we were.

It just about broke us, but we poured it, spread it, and smoothed it out in about two hours. And we're done (please, Lord). Now it will cure, and early next spring, I can worry about laying block on it for the undercroft.

As we were finishing up, my neighbor Denny drove up to inform me that the gunshot we heard about 9:30 this morning was the bagging of a deer for me. It's his annual thank-you for letting him hunt in my woods, which adjoin his. So, I told Zach I'd bring him some venison after it's done processing. Denny takes it to a butcher in Milan and leaves it in my name; all I have to do is go pay the processing fee and bring home the meat.
