Heading for the mountains

The discussion among our happy Crew suddenly ripened to a decision point yesterday, and we have a tentative destination and date for our 2015 Superactivity. And the winner is . . .
The Adirondacks
(and everywhere else)

Tentative Date: June 8-19, 2015
Tentative Cost: $475 per person

Our proposed itinerary has us heading north to enter Canada through Windsor and driving across Ontario to camp near Port Colborne. Then, we have a whole day to explore Niagara Falls on both sides of the border. We're planning on doing the Journey Behind the Falls as well as the boat ride up to the Falls.

Leaving Niagara, we will head across upstate New York toward the Adirondacks, stopping for a while at the Seneca Falls National Women's Historical Park. This will empower our girls, as well as giving the guys a chance to finish evolving. Our destination in the 'Dacks is Whispering Pines Campground, just outside of Lake Placid.

While in the High Peaks area, we are planning a couple of day hikes, including the Big One: climbing Mt. Marcy. We will also play tourist in Lake Placid. Then it's off to Fort Ticonderoga and a surfeit of living history.

We are planning on spending two nights in New York City, if we can swing it at Pouch Camp on Staten Island. This gives us a whole day to tramp around lower Manhattan. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island is on the itinerary, as well as eating out in Chinatown or Little Italy.

Then, we turn our noses to the west. Our penultimate day will be spent touring Gettysburg. Our last night will be spent in the quiet of the Maryland mountains before putting the hammer down and driving for home.

We hope to firm up all our reservations by the end of 2014. Venturers planning on going will have to have a current U.S. Passport.
