Dear Internet Fairy

I have had a problem for several days now with my laptop. It hangs up when opening links or shifting images/scrolling sometimes. It goes black/blank. I close the top, wait a few seconds, and open it up: there's my password screen waiting; I enter my password, and voila! My screen is just the way I wanted it.

It started on Facebook and is at its worst there, but sometimes shows up when I'm on some other site.

So, I don't know if this is a pop-up problem, a hardware problem, an OS problem, or what. I've run all the anti-virus stuff I've got. I've done a System Restore. Is there a magic fix I just don't know to do? Should I take everything off the 'puter and have the OS re-installed? Is it time to junk this lappy and get another?

Somebody out there knows.
