Good day in church

Quoted Bede's Death Song today -- in Old English -- in my sermon. (I gave the translation immediately thereafter.) Glad to have a congregation that humors me in some of my more unusual enthusiasms, such as my love of Old and Middle English. But it also goes to show that you don't have to dumb down the gospel to preach to ordinary folk; they're plenty smart, and as long as you're not just showing off, they'll follow you through many tangled thickets if you've got something worth saying.
