How I spent my afternoon
My computer has been getting progressively crankier. Today, it wouldn't start up, and it wouldn't repair the startup program. I finally got it to boot up in safe mode and transferred all my personal files onto a USB drive. Then I installed Windows 7.
I didn't do the "update" option; I went for the customized install, which meant that all my programs and bookmarks and whatnot were wiped out. I'm having to re-install basic things, like my Office software (I currently can't read any of my files) and my anti-virus programs. I'll have to rebuild my internet bookmarks from scratch.
And it'll all be worth it if the progressively worse crashes followed by yet more System Restores are now at an end.
