I was awakened from a nap this afternoon by a phone call from the VISA Fraud Center. Someone has apparently made a clone of my bankcard and has been attempting to run up charges on it in Raleigh, NC. I was in Cherokee, NC, at the beginning of this month, and made several purchases. Someone at one of those stores has apparently attempted to bilk me. The card was used successfully at a gas station, but then declined at a Food Lion. My bank has frozen the card and will issue me a new one; I am being sent a fraud report to fill out to remove the fraudulent charges.

As we become more and more electronic in all our dealings this becomes a greater and greater problem. I am impressed with VISA for getting right on it first thing, though. No nasty surprises at the end of the month. Good.
