Looking ahead

I'll be starting work on my Fall sermons (and maybe beyond) this week, as I head out to Wilderstead for some quiet time and hard work. I'm thinking of an Advent sermon on the birth of John the Baptist called "Forerunners" (working title). The trigger for my thinking is, of course, that great Old English quote that so inspired J.R.R. Tolkien,
Eala earendel engla beorhtast
ofer middangeard monnum sended.
